Codependency

Codependency is a relationship where one or both parties enables the other to live a life of chronic addiction (drugs, alcohol, laziness or general irresponsibility), all supporting a dysfunctional relationship. Parents, spouses or others will often tolerate these types of behavior in order to find meaning in their lives. Paradoxically, codependents are addicted to the mutual relationship of dependency for both involved. Codependency is not at all a healthy and mutually beneficial way to engage in life and is maladaptive and dysfunctional.
